5 May 1945: The Netherlands is liberated. On the 6th of May, the refugees shut the trapdoor to the attics for the last time, never to return to them.
At the end of the 60’s some carpenters working on the renovation of the church discovered one of the attics, but at that time there was little interest in the artefacts found there. It was only in 2006, during the preparations to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Breeplein Church, that the stories drew attention and both attics were reopened.
Visitors will be able to see the artefacts found in the attics, which were left behind by the refugees.
